Summer Family Camp Manager Positions

Three Mile Island Camp, operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club on Lake Winnipesaukee in central NH, is seeking a summer manager. Three Mile is a rustic family camp that occupies the entirety of a 43-acre island in the northwest corner of the lake. Campers who enjoy nature and simplicity come to the island to experience community and solitude, activity and relaxation, and the beauty of their surroundings. A key role of the manager is to facilitate that experience in a setting rich with tradition.

Management of the island is a two-person job. The current team consists of a manager and an assistant manager. The assistant manager is in place. The position of manager can be filled by one person or a couple sharing the job.

The summer camp staff consists of two cooks, a maintenance supervisor, and a crew of 18 teenagers, aged 18–21, all of whom are supervised by the managers. We are looking for a manager or managers who have significant experience working with teenaged youth; someone who can combine the roles of mentor/parent/boss/friend in such a way that the crew becomes a group of "peak performers."

In addition to supervising the staff, the manager will be responsible for the sound fiscal management and overall operation of the island, including the kitchen and maintenance operations. The camp season begins in June and extends through August. The manager will have some off-island year-round responsibilities as well.

We encourage interested candidates to "visit" the island at www.3Mile.org for additional information about the island and a complete job description. Better yet, candidates are invited to visit the island this summer to see the facility in operation. For additional information about the Appalachian Mountain Club, visit www.outdoors.org. For the right people, this is the best job in the world! Telephone inquiries are welcome. To apply, please send a resume and cover letter discussing your interest in working at a rustic, "old-fashioned" camp and your experience working with youth to:
